Working with First Line Managers

Calder Social Work Training and Consultancy continues to thrive and Martin Calder now works with a number of trusted associates to deliver a wide range of social work training and consultancy. Martin has moved into working with first line managers to help them develop both the skills and knowledge base required for the challenging work facing them. A sample of the courses on offer is now located on the Services page on this site. Martin also now delivers training around the exercise of professional judgement and working with parents who have a learning disability.

It is with great sadness that Martin notes the premature death of Tony Morrison, who was his guiding light, but a number of conferences to ensure his work continues are now emerging.

Martin is now able to offer bespoke training courses for staff working with young people who self harm and young people presenting with violent behaviour.

Martin signs to work with Meadows

Martin agreed to act as an external consultant to Meadows Care to help them develop a more sophisticated evidence-based assessment and management service to the young people they care for.

Impressed by their unswerving focus on the interests of the young person, Martin is helping Meadows develop further their skills and internal assessment frameworks when caring for young people presenting with a myriad of co-existing problems, such as self-harm, sexual behaviour and violence, fire setting and harm to animals; and also in developing a pioneering TATE framework for transitional assessments to ensure the young people leave the system with an accurate and current assessment.
